Lukwago: Museveni Hates Kampala, He Is Not Interested In Fixing It

Kampala's Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, has criticized President Yoweri Museveni's government for neglecting the city's development. This comes after his session today at the NBS Morning Breeze show.

He pointed out that while the government is actively borrowing money to compensate companies like UMEME, it doesn't invest enough in Kampala's infrastructure, a city that has a major impact in the country.

Lukwago stated, "We have a government that has the audacity to borrow money to compensate UMEME. They are dishing out money left, right, and center, but they can't borrow to fix Kampala."

He also said it straight away that President Museveni dislikes Kampala, saying, "Museveni hates Kampala!"

This isn't the first time Lukwago has voiced such concerns. In July 2020, he accused President Museveni of blocking development projects in the city and leading them elsewhere to other districts.

Lukwago believes that Museveni's unwillingness to work with opposition leaders in Kampala has slowed the city's progress.

Given that Kampala has more opposition MPs compared to the ruling government, Lukwago believes this could be one major factor resulting in Museveni's neglect of Kampala.

Additionally, Lukwago has highlighted issues in the city's budget. He noted that the government allocates more money to Kampala Capital City Authority's (KCCA) public relations than to road construction, something that has continued to paralyze the city with the recent floods as an example.

What is your say on Lukwago's claims? Feel free to drop a comment below on your thoughts.
