Moroto Residents Fed Up with UEDCL's Power Delays

Residents of Moroto Municipality have expressed deep frustration over the prolonged delays in electricity supply, blaming the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) for not fulfilling promises made over the past seven years.

Despite repeated assurances, many areas, including the key stretch from Katanga to Nadunget Sub-county, remain without power, stalling local development and businesses.

Business owners, such as Benjamin Ogwosar, have tried engaging with UEDCL for years, but their efforts have yielded no results. Some have turned to solar energy, but find it unreliable and costly, especially during the rainy season.

The frustration is palpable, with local leaders calling for immediate action and presidential intervention.

Moroto's economic potential is at risk as industries and services struggle without a stable power supply. Local leaders, including Mayor Ismail Mohammed, stress that the lack of electricity hinders growth and development.

UEDCL has acknowledged the issue, citing plans under a World Bank-funded project, but for residents, promises no longer suffice. They demand immediate access to power to drive progress in the region
