Mubende Police Release NUP District Chairperson on Bond

Mubende Police have granted bail to National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders Pafuladito Kyeyune and Damsen Kakooza following their arrest on April 17 for allegedly obstructing President Museveni’s convoy.

Kyeyune, the NUP District Chairperson for Mubende, and Kakooza, a councillor for Kalonga Sub-county, were ordered to return to police on April 28 as investigations continue.

Their detention had drawn criticism from some ruling NRM members in the district, who warned that the move could backfire politically by increasing sympathy for the opposition and weakening local support for the NRM.

NUP supporters gathered to celebrate the release.

“I am happy that Kyeyune and Kakooza are out on police bond, and I’m sure they will eventually be set free,” said Muganga Augustine, a local supporter.

Efforts to reach the two leaders for comment were unsuccessful, but Kyeyune is expected to be a contender for the Mubende District Chairperson seat in 2026, after losing to NRM’s Micheal Muhereza Ntambi in the last election.

Mubende NUP Chairperson Pafuladito Kyeyune and a councillor were released on bond after arrest for obstructing the President’s convoy, sparking political tension and criticism from local NRM leaders.
