NUP’s Rovans Lwanyaga Urges Supporters to Promote Unity and Respect on Social Media

Rovans Alex Lwanyaga, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Elections Committee and assistant to the Secretary General, has called on party foot soldiers to utilize social media responsibly and refrain from attacking individuals who hold different political views.
Speaking during a leadership engagement at the NUP offices in Wobulenzi Town Council, Luweero District, Lwanyaga emphasised the need for a more respectful and strategic approach to political mobilisation. He noted that NUP has not yet secured widespread support across all Ugandan families and warned that hostility toward non-supporters could hinder efforts to grow the party’s base.
“Our foot soldiers need to focus on making people understand our cause instead of abusing those who disagree with us,” he said. “We must attract more people to our party, not push them away.”
Lwanyaga also encouraged the NUP Mobilisation Department to enhance efforts in recruitment but warned against making empty promises to potential members. He criticised the practice of promising new recruits party flags prematurely, emphasising that only the appropriate party structures can make such decisions.
“Mobilisers should not assure new members of being flag bearers. We have departments for Organization, Mobilisation, and the Elections Management Committee (EMC). The process must be followed,” he stated.
Reflecting on the 2021 elections, Lwanyaga acknowledged the limited preparation time but promised a more organized and accountable approach in the upcoming 2026 elections. He stressed the importance of selecting competent and community-rooted leaders rather than imposing unfamiliar individuals on local populations.
“We are not here to bring strangers as leaders. We will give you your own people who love and are committed to serving your community,” he said. “And to the women: don’t be deceived into thinking you must exchange your dignity for party cards. Know your value.”
Lwanyaga also condemned internal conflicts and opportunism within the party, criticising those who demand money from leaders and then cause friction when their expectations are unmet.
“Some foot soldiers ask for money from leaders. If they get it, there’s peace; if not, the narrative changes. Don’t be like look-worms. If you’re NUP, stay true to the party,” he said.
Katikamu South MP, Hon. Hassan Kirumira Lukalidde, echoed Lwanyaga’s sentiments, calling on supporters to remain united in the struggle to liberate Uganda from injustice.
“We must be determined to carry the cross of liberation. We must also be cautious, as some people among us are not loyal. Some of our colleagues are even in prison for speaking the truth,” Kirumira said.
Meanwhile, Luweero District LC5 Chairperson Erasto Kibirango reassured NUP leaders of the party’s strong footing in the district, expressing confidence ahead of the 2026 elections.
“NUP remains strong in Luweero. It is our responsibility as leaders to keep the candle burning. The people are watching us as they make their decisions,” the chairperson said.
The engagement highlighted NUP’s focus on internal discipline, grassroots organisation, and strategic communication as the party looks ahead to future electoral victories.
