Namayanja Hails Museveni for Championing Women Empowerment

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Deputy Secretary General, Rose Namayanja Nsereko, has applauded President Museveni for his long-standing commitment to empowering women in Uganda.

Speaking at the belated International Women’s Day celebrations held at Semuto Primary School playgrounds in Nakaseke District, Namayanja credited President Museveni with initiating key policies that have increased female participation in governance and leadership.

“Under President Museveni’s leadership, Uganda became the first country to reserve seats for women in Parliament, amplifying our voices,” she said.

Namayanja noted that the progress made in women’s empowerment was the result of deliberate policy decisions by the NRM government, including the enactment of laws to guarantee women’s representation.

She also cited the Local Government Act, which mandates that women occupy at least one-third of leadership positions at local levels.

Additionally, she acknowledged other inclusive policies that ensure representation for youth, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.

In line with this year’s national Women’s Day theme, “Accelerated Action for Gender Equality,” Namayanja urged women to take advantage of government wealth creation programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the GROW project to enhance their economic status.

She praised beneficiaries of the PDM in Nakaseke and assured continued government support for such initiatives.

Nakaseke District Woman MP, Hon. Sarah Najjuma, echoed similar sentiments, calling on women to actively engage in income-generating activities.

“No job that earns should be underestimated,” she said, encouraging women to support President Museveni and NRM candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

LCV District Chairman, Mr. Ignatius Koomu, emphasised the importance of educating girls while also advocating for equal investment in raising responsible children
