To Suggest I'm Trying to Harm and Steal My Husband's Property is Deeply Painful, says Jolly Kateregga

Ms Jolly Shubaiha Kateregga has strongly denied persistent allegations from her husband, Professor Badru Ddungu Kateregga, who claims she assaulted him and is attempting to take over his property and business.

In an emotional statement released on Friday, April 25, Jolly said she helped grow Kampala University from "deep financial strain" and spoke of enduring "his repeated infidelity".

“To suggest I'm trying to harm and steal my husband’s property is deeply painful,” Jolly said, condemning the accusations as false and malicious.

Prof Kateregga, the founder of Kampala University, and his wifey Jolly sensationally fell out last year with their bedroom linen spilling to the public milieu.

Jolly, who has long been a central figure at Kampala University, emphasized her dedication to both her family and the institution.

"I married him in 2012. I dedicated myself to him and to Kampala University, where I served as Director in charge of Finance, Marketing, and Budget,” she explained.

“Under my leadership and effort, the University grew from deep financial strain to a multi-campus institution with branches across Uganda and in the region.”

She said claimed that she had made significant sacrifices for both her family and her husband, saying, “Throughout our marriage, I was not only a wife and mother of our three children, but also Prof Kateregga’s caregiver due to his numerous health complications.”

Despite facing challenges, including what she described as her husband's repeated infidelity, Jolly remained committed to their family and her responsibilities at the university.

“I never expected that the man I gave my youth to would turn against me in this manner,” she said.

The dispute between Jolly and Prof Kateregga became public when the professor accused her of assaulting him in September 2023.

Jolly, however, denies these claims, stating that the wounds her husband referred to were a result of surgery to treat blood clots at IHK, not any physical altercation.

“He falsely accused me of physical assault, claiming scars from his operation were injuries I inflicted,” Jolly said, referencing the allegations that had been dismissed by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after a thorough investigation.

Jolly also contended that Prof Kateregga’s claims of her attempting to poison him were equally unfounded.

“Even our children believed I had poisoned him, but all medical tests cleared me,” she said.

The Nile Post is not privy to the detail of the said toxicology report and could not readily establish if they exist.

The conflict intensified when Jolly was removed from her position at Kampala University, a decision she attributes to forged signatures and illegal changes made at the university registry.

She has since sought legal recourse, including filing a forensic report that confirmed her signature was forged.

“I have been falsely accused, harassed online, and removed from my position at Kampala University through forged signatures,” Jolly said, expressing frustration over the unlawful actions taken against her.

Despite the emotional and public toll of the ongoing legal battle, Jolly remains focused on seeking justice through the courts.

“My only 'crime' is being a loyal wife, a mother, and a woman who loved deeply, worked hard, and stood by her family,” she stated. She also expressed her hopes for the truth to ultimately prevail.

“I believe that in time, the truth will prevail and that I will be vindicated,” she added, calling on the media and public to carefully consider the facts of the matter before passing judgment.

Jolly's statement concludes with a call for peaceful resolution.

“I remain committed to seeking justice peacefully through the courts and leave the rest to God and the courts of justice,” she said, urging all involved to respect the legal process as the dispute continues to unfold.
