The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus will meet at State House Entebbe on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 12pm.

The meeting was confirmed by Denis Hamson Obua, the Government Chief Whip and Chairperson of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, who stated, "This serves to inform you that the NRM Parliamentary Caucus shall meet on Friday, May 2, 2025, at State House, Entebbe at 12pm."

MPs from the ruling party have been asked to plan their schedules accordingly, with an official notice to follow.

The meeting is expected to focus on two key issues: the 2025/26 National Budget and a controversial bill aimed at reversing a Supreme Court ruling from January 31, 2025.

The ruling outlawed military courts' power to try civilians, declaring the practice unconstitutional.

The proposed bill seeks to grant military courts jurisdiction over civilians in certain cases, a move that has sparked intense debate.

Proponents argue it is necessary for national security, while critics warn it could undermine civilian rights and lead to potential abuses.

The caucus will also discuss the national budget, which will outline government priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.

With Uganda facing rising costs and inflation, MPs will need to address key economic challenges, especially in infrastructure and the social sector.

The NRM, with its dominant majority in Parliament, will play a crucial role in shaping the budget and ensuring its passage.

Both the budget and the military court bill are expected to dominate discussions, setting the stage for significant legislative actions in the coming months.

As the ruling party’s parliamentary majority, the NRM’s stance on these issues will have a lasting impact on Uganda's governance and legal framework.

The meeting is expected to focus on two key issues: the 2025/26 National Budget and a controversial bill aimed at reversing a Supreme Court ruling from January 31, 2025.
