Emmanuel Nyabayangu, a strong supporter of President Museveni, shared a personal story about losing his wife to former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya.

Nyabayangu, who worked as a driver for the Rwanda Embassy in the late 1990s, claims that Bukenya took advantage of his wife, Margaret Kabasinguzi, after she was appointed to lead his 1996 election campaign taskforce for the Busiro North parliamentary seat.

Nyabayangu says that Bukenya used this opportunity to form a romantic relationship with his wife, which eventually led to her leaving him and moving into a mansion built by Bukenya in Fort Portal. The couple, who had six children together, faced a painful separation due to Bukenya’s actions.

Nyabayangu has spoken out, stating that Bukenya not only took his wife but also caused him physical harm. He claims that Bukenya summoned him to his office, punched him severely, and left him bleeding while his bodyguards watched.

After this incident, Nyabayangu turned to the Catholic Church for help, but received no support from the local parishes.

He also reported the matter to the police, but he alleges that Bukenya, still holding power as Vice President, tried to silence him with a payment of Shs150 million.

However, Nyabayangu states that only Shs110 million was paid, and the remainder was never given. Bukenya, he claims, is now using media outlets like New Vision to spread false information about their financial agreement.

Nyabayangu also mentioned that his ongoing court case, which has been costly, is not just for him, but also for his children, who question why their mother left their father.

He believes Bukenya’s actions have caused irreparable damage to his family, and he intends to continue fighting for justice, despite the financial and emotional toll it has taken on him.

This situation is further complicated by Bukenya's wife, who has also named Margaret Kabasinguzi in her divorce petition, listing her as one of the women Bukenya has been involved with during their marriage
