Ugandans woke up to troubling news on Thursday morning after reports surfaced of a foiled assassination attempt targeting a high-profile judicial officer living in Lubowa Housing Estate, a suburb along the Kampala-Entebbe highway.

According to a reliable source, security agencies received a tip-off about the planned attack and quickly deployed soldiers to the estate.

The heavily armed team later raided Lubowa Police Station on Wednesday afternoon, reportedly in connection to the mission.

During the raid, soldiers allegedly assaulted several police officers and civilians, causing confusion and fear in the area.

The motive behind the assault on the police station remains unclear, but sources indicate it may have been linked to the mission to thwart the assassination plot.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case, confirmed that the soldiers’ presence in the estate was tied to the protection of the targeted judicial officer.

Efforts to get official confirmation or additional details from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Uganda Police were unsuccessful.

Both army and police spokespersons did not respond to calls and messages by press time.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the security of top officials and coordination among Uganda’s security agencies.

Citizens and civil society groups have called for transparency and accountability over the matter.

More details are expected to emerge as investigations continue. The identity of the targeted officer remains undisclosed for security reasons
