The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially launched the display of the national voters’ register at 620 polling stations that had previously delayed the process.

These stations, which were left out when the nationwide exercise began on April 25, will now conduct the display from May 6 to May 27, 2025—allowing them to meet the legally mandated 21-day period.

In a statement issued by EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, the Commission assured the public that the delay has been addressed and the process is now fully underway at all polling stations nationwide.

“The Electoral Commission would like to inform the nation that the 620 polling stations which had not commenced the display of the national voters register and registers for special interest groups on 25th of April when the general exercise commenced have also now commenced that exercise,” Mucunguzi confirmed.

During the launch of the exercise last month, EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama emphasized that even with the delayed start, these polling stations would still be able to complete the full display period as required by law.

The 21-day period is critical, giving voters ample time to verify their details on the register and raise any objections or corrections.

The display exercise is a key pillar of Uganda’s electoral process. It allows eligible voters to confirm that their names and details—including photographs—are correctly captured in the register.

It also gives citizens the opportunity to flag any ineligible individuals, such as underage persons or non-residents, for removal.

“We want to call upon all Ugandans to take this matter of the display of the national voters register as a very important exercise,” Mucunguzi urged.

“It’s through this display and scrutiny of the register that we shall be able to make sure that the voters’ roll is clean and credible.”

Throughout the country, EC staff will be stationed daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at each of the more than 38,000 polling stations to assist voters and address any concerns.

The Commission has reiterated that a clean and accurate voters’ register is foundational to ensuring the integrity of the 2025 general elections.

Citizens are therefore encouraged to participate actively in this phase as a civic duty vital to upholding democracy.

Exercise runs May 6–27 to ensure full 21-day verification period ahead of Uganda’s 2025 elections
