Scores Feared Dead As YY Bus Overturns, Bursts Into Frames In Bwikwe District

A serious incident occurred in Buikwe District on Monday, 5th May 2025, when a YY bus caught fire near Makindu Trading Centre in Najja Sub-county.

The bus, with registration number UAV 702J, was travelling along the Njeru–Katosi Road when it went up in flames, leaving several passengers feared dead.

Some bystanders attempted to assist, but the fire had already spread widely.

The exact number of casualties remains unclear. Emergency services and local authorities arrived shortly after the incident, but by then, the bus had been severely damaged.

Images from the scene show a burnt-out shell, with scattered personal belongings nearby.

Some survivors were seen in shock and with injuries, receiving help from residents and rescue teams. Police are currently investigating to determine what caused the fire and to confirm the number of people affected.
