NRM Candidate Rejects Baazar LC1 Election Results In Moroto, Calls for Re-run

Tempers flared in Moroto on Tuesday, 6th May 2025, as Zachary Kiyonga Lomokol, the NRM candidate for Baazar Village, stormed the party’s complaint desk demanding the nullification of the LC1 flag bearer election results.
Kiyonga, who garnered 85 votes against Emmanuel Idende Lokwakol’s 140, claimed the process was marred by irregularities.
Speaking passionately at the NRM complaints desk set up at the Private Sector offices in Moroto Town, Kiyonga alleged that he was initially leading the vote, with a visibly longer line of supporters.
However, confusion erupted when the gate was allegedly opened to allow in non-verified voters who, he claims, overwhelmingly joined Lokwakol’s line.
“I was clearly ahead. My line was growing. Then suddenly, people who were not verified stormed in and tilted the process,” Kiyonga said, vowing to formally petition the results and calling for a re-run.
His remarks were met with cheers from his supporters, who had followed him to the venue. In response, NRM district officials, including the party’s Moroto Chairperson, Micheal Lokawa, advised Kiyonga to compile his complaint in writing for formal review advice that further fueled applause from the gathered crowd.
It remains unclear whether the party will consider a re-run, but the tension shows growing scrutiny around internal party elections in the region.
