Drama unfolded in Lwengo District on Saturday after a swarm of bees stormed and disrupted a live broadcast of a rally organized by National Resistance Movement (NRM) MPs from Buganda under the banner "Buganda for Museveni."The political meeting, aimed at solidifying support for President Yoweri Museveni’s re-election bid in 2026, was thrown into chaos as bees descended on the stage just moments before the President’s virtual address was scheduled to begin.

Journalists, MPs, and attendees were seen fleeing for safety, some abandoning their equipment as the insects overtook the venue.

Local broadcasters were forced to abruptly cut the live feed, leaving viewers across the country confused.

Moments later, event organizers confirmed the rally had been postponed due to what they called an “uncontrollable natural disturbance.”

But in Buganda, this was no ordinary bee attack. According to traditional beliefs, bees are seen as spiritual messengers — a sign that the ancestors are displeased or rejecting a particular action or gathering.

“This was not a coincidence,” said a local elder, Ssalongo Mwanje of Kiwangala. “In our culture, bees appearing like this at a political event is a warning. The spirits are speaking.”

The “Buganda for Museveni” initiative, led by several NRM-aligned MPs from central Uganda, has sparked controversy and backlash from opposition supporters and cultural purists.

Many Baganda youth on social media described the bee invasion as a sign that the region has spiritually rejected the campaign.

“Even nature is tired,” tweeted one user under the hashtag #BeesRejectNRM.

The rally was expected to showcase key endorsements and demonstrate NRM's growing support in Buganda ahead of the 2026 elections.

However, this unexpected disruption has now turned the event into a political and spiritual debate.

While police have not released an official statement, some NRM figures dismissed the incident as sabotage.

“Let’s not spiritualize everything,” said one MP. “It was just bees.”

Still, the symbolism has resonated widely, especially in a region where cultural signs are deeply respected.

Whether coincidence or omen, the incident has stirred national attention — and raised more questions than answers about the true mood in Buganda as the road to 2026 continues
