Phiona Nyamutoro, the State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development (Minerals), has officially announced her intention to contest for the Nebbi District Woman Representative seat in Uganda’s 2026 general elections.

Currently serving as the National Youth Representative in the 11th Parliament, Nyamutoro’s declaration adds a fresh dynamic to what is expected to be a hotly contested race.

The seat is presently held by Agnes Acibu, a fellow member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. Nyamutoro’s entry into the race sets the stage for an intra-party political showdown that could reshape the political landscape in Nebbi District.

Nyamutoro made her announcement in a symbolic gesture on Mother’s Day, blending political ambition with heartfelt tribute.

Sharing a campaign image on her X (formerly Twitter) platform, she stated, “Nebbi has mothered many great and significant citizens for our nation, and now it’s time for me to shine. Happy Mother’s Day!”

In addition to her political credentials, Nyamutoro’s public profile has been elevated by her connection to the entertainment industry, particularly her relationship with popular musician Eddy Kenzo.

This crossover appeal may help her engage a broader demographic, especially among the youth
