“You Arrest Opposition for Uniforms, But Spare Lilian Aber?” – MP Ssemujju Questions NRM Bias

Kira Municipality MP, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, has spoken out strongly against what he calls unfair treatment of opposition leaders in Uganda.He questioned why opposition members are being arrested for wearing military-like clothes, while members of the ruling party, NRM, are not punished for doing the same.

Ssemujju gave the example of Hon. Lilian Aber, the Member of Parliament for Kitgum.

He said she once wore a uniform that looked just like the Special Forces Command (SFC) outfit, but no one arrested her.

“All NRM members have two uniforms. You saw people like Lilian Aber wearing uniforms like those of the SFC. Why do you arrest other people and leave her?” Ssemujju asked.

He said this is clear proof that the government is only targeting opposition members and protecting those in the ruling NRM party.

Ssemujju believes this is part of a plan to silence and intimidate opposition leaders and supporters ahead of the 2026 presidential election.

At the same time, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, said that many of his supporters are being followed, threatened, or taken away without clear reasons.

He said the government is doing this to scare opposition supporters so they do not speak out or join protests.

Ssemujju and Bobi Wine have both asked the government to stop these actions and treat all Ugandans equally, no matter which political party they support.

Many Ugandans have also raised concerns on social media about the double standards.

They are asking why wearing certain clothes should lead to arrest only if you are from the opposition.

This issue has now become a big topic in Uganda, with more people calling for fair treatment and justice.
