First Son and senior military officer Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has suggested that Eddie Mutwe, a long-time aide to opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), could join his security team.Speaking in a statement that has sparked debate, Muhoozi said, “Eddie can become my bodyguard. That's an opportunity for him. Since he has learnt his lesson. He can join us and we build a new Uganda.”

Eddie Mutwe, whose real name is Edward Ssebuufu, has been a prominent figure in the National Unity Platform (NUP) and has faced multiple arrests, alleged torture, and persecution at the hands of security forces.

He has consistently denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that his only "crime" has been standing with the opposition and advocating for justice.

Gen. Muhoozi's statement has drawn mixed reactions from the public. Supporters of the ruling establishment view it as a gesture of reconciliation and a call for unity, while critics argue it is a veiled mockery of those who have suffered under state repression.

Some political analysts believe the comment could be part of a larger strategy to soften Muhoozi’s public image ahead of possible future political ambitions.

NUP supporters, however, have dismissed the statement as an insult to Mutwe’s sacrifices. “This is not a joke. People have been tortured, dehumanized, and broken. You don’t just offer them jobs like this was a movie,” one supporter said.

While Eddie Mutwe has not yet responded publicly to Muhoozi’s remarks, his allies insist he remains committed to the cause of change and accountability in Uganda
