Iranian President Confirmed dead in a Helicopter Crash

The president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, has been officially declared dead following his Sunday helicopter crash in the remote east mountainous region of east Azerbaijan. The president and foreign minister, along with seven other people, perished in the crash, according to information provided by Iran's state media to CNN on Monday morning.

It was stated that they were present at the Azerbaijani dam project's inauguration event. The report states that because to inclement weather, it took the rescue crew sixteen hours to reach the crash site. Three helicopters were supposed to have been in a convoy that crossed Iranian territory; two of them returned safely, but the one carrying the foreign minister and president crashed in a hilly area, cutting off all communication with it.

According to reports, the army ordered all the supplies required for the search, and a Turkish drone also assisted in the operation.

Before his passing, Raisi was regarded as a hardliner in the Islamic Republic of Iran's leadership and was positioned next to Ayatollah Khameni, who holds the ultimate power in Iran.

In response to the crash news on Sunday, Iran's supreme leader sent out a message of stability and calm, asking people to pray for the president's survival and the return of the cabinet to the people. He assured the people not to worry and said there would be no interference with the government's operations. Nonetheless, the supreme leader has not yet released an official statement following the president's verified death as of the time this report was filled up.

Per the Iranian constitution, the country will hold an election for a new president within fifty days after the first vice president's appointment as an interim leader approved by the supreme leader
