As preparations for the prestigious Masaza Cup tournament intensify, counties across the Buganda Kingdom are actively recruiting players and technical staff to strengthen their squads.

In a significant development, Kyagwe County has officially signed Simon Peter Mugerwa, a celebrated coach with three Masaza Cup titles to his name.

Mugerwa, widely regarded as one of the most successful coaches in Masaza Cup history having won the trophy with different counties, was formally introduced to Kyagwe County’s leadership by the team chairperson Stephen Serubula.

The ceremony took place at the Kyagwe County Headquarters in Mukono Municipality, in the presence of County Chief (Sekiboobo), Owek. Vincent Matovu.

In his acceptance speech, Mugerwa expressed gratitude for the opportunity and emphasised the collective nature of the task ahead.

“This is not a job for me alone, it's a team effort. If we all work together, we can bring the trophy home,” Mugerwa stated.

“I promise to dedicate my time and energy fully to this team. If all goes well, we shall win.”

Owek. Vincent Matovu welcomed the new coach and promised the county’s full support, but not without a firm challenge.

“We will provide the coach and his technical team with everything they need but on one condition: we want the trophy,” Matovu declared.

He also called for unity among all stakeholders fans, players, and officials stressing that transparency and teamwork are key to achieving success.

The unveiling of Coach Mugerwa was met with great excitement from Kyagwe fans, who are optimistic that his winning pedigree will finally deliver the long-awaited title.

Mugerwa’s remarkable record includes three Masaza Cup trophies, a feat that has earned him respect and admiration across the Kingdom. With his arrival, Kyagwe County has signaled its serious intent to compete for this year’s title.
