CEPA Calls for Improved Human Rights Observance in Uganda

The Executive Director of the Centre for Policy Analysis (CEPA), Timothy Chemonges, has expressed significant concern regarding the current state of human rights observance in Uganda.
Chemonges emphasized the urgent need for improvement, highlighting the importance of protecting civil society actors, ensuring the safety of human rights defenders and journalists, and establishing a structured dialogue between civil society organizations (CSOs) and the government.
"While there have been numerous discussions on this topic in the past, it is essential to continue these conversations," Chemonges said. "Ceasing dialogue would create a vacuum where negative alternatives could emerge, undermining the progress we seek to make in safeguarding human rights.
Therefore, maintaining ongoing communication is critical to reinforcing our commitment to these issues."
Chemonges' remarks underscore the importance of sustained engagement between CSOs and the government in promoting and protecting human rights.
He emphasized that ongoing dialogue is crucial to addressing the challenges faced by human rights defenders and journalists, and to ensuring that progress made is not reversed.
The CEPA Executive Director's call for improved human rights observance in Uganda highlights the need for collective action to promote and protect the rights of all citizens.
By maintaining open lines of communication and working together, CSOs and the government can work towards creating a safer and more enabling environment for human rights defenders and journalists to operate.
