Tayebwa Urges 2026 Aspirants to Respect Electoral Laws as He Seeks Re-election

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has urged all political aspirants vying for leadership positions in the 2026 general elections to strictly adhere to the electoral guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission.
He emphasised that failure to comply with these rules could lead to legal trouble and disrupt the integrity of the electoral process.
Speaking at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party headquarters in Kyadondo, where he officially picked nomination forms to contest again for the Ruhinda North parliamentary seat, Tayebwa noted that the Electoral Commission had invested considerable effort in drafting the regulations.
He warned against unnecessary interference with the laws, stressing that they are comprehensive and do not require further alteration.
“I have decided to return and contest for this position because there are still many development goals, I had planned for my constituency that remain unfinished,” Tayebwa told journalists after receiving his nomination forms.
The NRM party on Monday began registering candidates seeking to represent various constituencies in the 2026 parliamentary elections.
Several high-profile figures picked nomination forms, including Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, who is seeking re-election to represent Bukedea District. Also joining the race is Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande, who aims to represent Lwemiyaga County.
