Museveni Congratulates Omukama Iguru on 31st Coronation Anniversary

President Museveni has congratulated Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru on his 31st coronation anniversary, extending his best wishes for the monarch’s swift recovery and commending the Bunyoro Kingdom for its role in preserving Uganda’s cultural identity.

In a statement issued to mark the anniversary, the President emphasized the importance of kingdoms in maintaining traditional values and promoting community development.

“Kingdoms are vital for preserving language, food, customs—especially the rational ones—and socio-economic aspects,” Museveni noted.

He stressed the need to uphold cultural values as a foundation for raising responsible and resilient future generations. “We must focus on our customs to raise strong children,” he said.

Museveni also expressed satisfaction with the cordial relationship between the central government and the Bunyoro Kingdom.

“I’m pleased with our progress and our positive relationship with Bunyoro,” he said, describing the kingdom as a valued cultural institution that works hand-in-hand with the state.

The President urged kingdom leaders and the wider community to remain focused on unity and cultural development rather than divisive politics.

“Let’s keep politics at bay,” he said, calling for cooperation and mutual respect across all levels of leadership.

Museveni also extended gratitude to support structures within the kingdom, including the committees and the Omugo (Queen Mother), for their ongoing contributions to the kingdom’s welfare

. “Thanks to all committees, along with the Omugo, for supporting the kingdom,” he added.

The coronation anniversary of Omukama Solomon Iguru, who ascended to the throne in 1994, is a significant event for the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom.

Museveni’s message reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding Uganda’s rich cultural diversity through continued engagement with traditional institutions.
