Police in Kabalagala are investigating a tragic case of electrocution that occurred this morning at approximately 8:00 a.m. in Ssebagala Zone, Kansanga, Makindye Division, claiming the life of a 24-year-old man and injuring three others.

The deceased, identified as Charles Nyanzi, a resident of Simba Zone, Kansanga, was part of a group of four men who had gone to Kansanga Police Post for a National Identity Card registration exercise.

The group had reportedly been requested by their local council leader to assist in transporting a tent from Kansanga Seed School to the police post, where the exercise was scheduled to take place.

According to preliminary police reports, while the group was carrying the tent, its metallic frame accidentally came into contact with an overhead high-voltage power line.

The resulting electric shock electrocuted all four individuals.

Nyanzi was rushed to a nearby health facility but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The three survivors—Asuman Tanga (26), Twinamatsiko Girauzo, and Abraham Ntambi—sustained injuries and were immediately attended to by medical personnel.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident and noted that investigations are currently underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

“Our preliminary findings indicate that the group was assisting at the request of the area LCI Chairperson, who was found near the scene. No arrests have been made so far, but inquiries are ongoing,” Owoyesigyire said.

He also issued a public safety reminder, urging citizens to be cautious when handling metallic objects near power lines.

“We urge members of the public to always exercise extreme caution while dealing with metallic structures around high-voltage lines to avoid such preventable tragedies,” he added.

The community of Kansanga remains in shock as authorities continue their investigations. More updates will follow as the police release further details.
