President Yoweri Museveni has responded to concerns raised by the Iranian Ambassador to Uganda over the country’s silence about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.In a recent statement, the President acknowledged that Uganda had not yet publicly expressed its long-held position on the crisis, despite its significance.

“The other day, I saw a complaint by the Iranian Ambassador to Uganda as to why we have not commented on the tragic situation in the Middle East,” Museveni said.

“It is true that we have not yet externalized our long-held views on that situation.” he stated.

Museveni emphasized that Uganda has a consistent stance rooted in its belief in dialogue and mutual respect between nations.

“Although we have not issued a formal statement recently, our position has always been that peace and stability must be sought in every part of the world. The Middle East crisis is no exception,” he stated.

The President expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions between Israel and its neighbours, including Iran, and reiterated that Uganda stands for a negotiated settlement.

According to Museveni, peace can only be achieved when parties respect each other’s sovereignty, adhere to international law, and pursue dialogue rather than aggression.

While the President promised that Uganda would make its stance clear in the coming days, he called upon the international community to intensify efforts towards de-escalation.

He also extended condolences to all those affected by the ongoing war, stating that the loss of civilian lives is a tragedy that must compel nations to unite in seeking a peaceful solution.
