UPC Releases Roadmap for Party Elections, Urges Unity Among Members

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has officially unveiled its roadmap for party elections, beginning with the election of village branch executives starting June 30th, 2025.
The roadmap was announced during a press briefing addressed by the party’s Head of Media and Communications, Muzeyi Faizo.
The restructuring process, which commenced in the Lango Sub-region on June 12, is now set to roll out across the rest of the country with other regions like Acholi, Teso,Karamojja,Greater Kampala,Masaka and others. According to Muzeyi, the initiative is part of the UPC’s broader effort to strengthen grassroots structures ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Despite facing logistical challenges, Muzeyi commended party members for their resilience and commitment to revitalising leadership structures. “We thank our members for participating in this important exercise under difficult circumstances,” he said.
In a firm message aimed at maintaining party discipline, the UPC cautioned its members against contesting as independents after losing primaries. Instead, they were urged to rally behind the official flag bearers.
“Any member who goes against the nominated candidate will face disciplinary action as guided by the party constitution,” Muzeyi warned.
He also noted that a major internal challenge remains aligning UPC’s internal calendar with the national electoral roadmap set by the Independent Electoral Commission.
