Traders at St. Balikuddembe Market have appealed to President Museveni to personally launch the highly anticipated market loan scheme at their market, saying it will reaffirm his support and popularity among business communities.

President Museveni was initially expected to launch the market loan at St. Balikuddembe Market tomorrow. However, sources indicate that he was advised to shift the event to the newly constructed Busega Market over concerns about his support among city traders.

Despite the change of venue, traders at St. Balikuddembe insist the president still commands significant support in the markets and called upon him to reconsider. They argue that launching the scheme at their market would send a strong message of unity and commitment to the business community.

Suzan Kusaba, who is vying for a leadership position of Member of Parliament Kampala central, representing the traders, also rallied the market community to support President Museveni, describing him as the “fruit of the country” whose leadership has brought development.

“If elected to Parliament, I will ensure that President Museveni prioritises the needs of market vendors and small business owners,” Kusaba pledged.

The business community further expressed gratitude for the government’s initiatives aimed at improving their welfare but insisted that launching the loan scheme at St. Balikuddembe would be the clearest demonstration of Museveni’s continued relationship with grassroots traders.

The proposed market loan scheme is designed to boost small-scale businesses by offering affordable credit, especially to market vendors and informal traders across the country.
