Nansana MP Musoke Wakayima Quits After Failing to Secure Bobi Wine’s Support, Zambali Now Favourite

After nearly ten years as Member of Parliament for Nansana Municipality, Nsereko Musoke Wakayima has decided to step aside.
Reports say his hopes of keeping the NUP ticket ended after he failed to get support from party leader Bobi Wine.
In a private meeting, Wakayima shared with Bobi Wine the financial difficulties he faced during his time as MP. Despite his requests, Bobi Wine did not change his mind, leaving Wakayima without the support he needed.
Wakayima spoke about the challenges he faced in his political career. His first term from 2011 to 2016 ended when Justice Steven Kavuma removed him from Parliament and gave the seat to NRM’s Robert Kasule Sebunya. His later term also saw many court cases that drained his resources and energy.
Wakayima was one of the first politicians to support Bobi Wine when he became Kyaddondo East MP in 2017. Still, he found the cost of keeping the NUP nomination too high.
He asked Bobi Wine to help keep his place in the party so he could focus on defeating NRM candidates. Bobi Wine refused and told him to take his case to the party’s Electoral Management Committee (EMC), whose decisions are final.
Wakayima then withdrew from the race. He held meetings with close supporters in Nansana, including those who had backed him since his time as a Wakiso district councillor and town council mayor.
They agreed the party preferred Zambali Mukasa Blasio, a former NBS journalist, as their candidate.
Wakayima’s choice not to pick nomination forms for the Nansana MP seat and his reduced contact with voters show he is ending his bid for another term.
His withdrawal has cleared the way for Zambali, who was supported by Joel Ssenyonyi during his nomination at Kavule, to become the main candidate for the NUP ticket.
Other hopefuls, such as singer Big Eye and Kana Kambata, are said to be encouraged by party leaders to step down or aim for lower roles like councillor.
With Wakayima out, Zambali’s chance to become the next MP for Nansana looks stronger.
