Three UPDF Soldiers Arrested Over Murder of Mukono School Owner Godfrey Wayengera

Three soldiers from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have been arrested in connection with the killing of Godfrey Wayengera, the proprietor of Beloved Day Care and Nursery School in Mukono.
Wayengera was reportedly taken from Namumira village in Mukono Town by armed individuals dressed in clothing that appeared similar to army uniforms. Witnesses said the group used a vehicle that looked like a police patrol, which raised concern in the community.
His body was later found dumped in a bush nearby, days after his disappearance. The discovery shocked residents and drew attention due to the way the killing was carried out and the reported use of military-style clothing by the suspects.
Following investigations, three UPDF soldiers were arrested. During questioning, the suspects reportedly said they had been hired to carry out the act. The identity of the person or people who hired them and their reasons remain under investigation.
Police and military officials have not yet given a full statement to the public. However, sources involved in the inquiry said efforts are ongoing to find those who planned the killing.
Wayengera was known in Mukono for his commitment to early childhood education. His death has left many in the education sector and the wider community deeply affected.
