Overloaded Lorries Wreak Havoc on Nakaseke Infrastructure

Nakaseke South MP Paul Luttamaguzi Ssemakula has sounded the alarm over the persistent destruction of roads and power infrastructure by overloaded lorries transporting pine to Kapeka Industrial Park, warning that the unchecked activity poses growing risks to public safety and local development.
According to Ssemakula, the lorries—mostly passing through Kikyusa in Semuto—have become a daily menace.
He said they are responsible for snapping electric poles and wires, and for severely damaging the roads in the area.
“These overloaded lorries carrying pine to Kapeka Industrial Park through Kikyusa in Semuto Nakaseke destroy electric poles and wires every day,” Ssemakula said.
“They also destroy our roads, and today they destroyed electric poles at the Kyoga training centre in Semuto.”
The MP’s remarks follow a recent incident at the Kyoga training centre and reflect growing frustration among residents and leaders over the deterioration of public infrastructure.
Beyond the economic impact, Ssemakula stressed the safety risks posed by the trucks, urging the government and relevant authorities to intervene before lives are lost or the damage becomes irreversible.
“This is not just about infrastructure,” he warned. “It’s about the safety and well-being of the people in this community.”
The destruction of roads and power lines disrupts daily life and undermines economic activity in the area, especially in an industrial corridor that is meant to promote growth.
Ssemakula has called for urgent action from the Ministry of Works and the police to regulate axle loads and enforce traffic laws along the affected routes.
“The government must step in now,” he said, “before this situation spirals completely out of control.”
