Police Investigate Woman in Sudden Death of Dr John Spire Kiggundu

A police investigation has been launched following the sudden and unexpected death of Dr John Spire Kiggundu, a respected Ugandan doctor and brother to activist and academic Dr Jim Spire Ssentongo.

While the family has dismissed any suspicion of foul play, authorities are now following leads that suggest a woman may be connected to the case.

According to police sources, CCTV footage and WhatsApp messages have revealed interactions between Dr Kiggundu and a yet-to-be-identified woman in the hours before his death.

The woman, whose name is being withheld for now, was last seen with the late doctor and is currently on the run.

Investigators believe she could have vital information that may clarify the events that led to his passing.

Dr Kiggundu’s death shocked both the medical community and the public.

A requiem mass held on 23 June 2025 in Kampala was attended by relatives, friends, and members of the public, who gathered to honour his life and service.

Many described him as a humble, dedicated professional whose sudden loss leaves a deep void.

Police have urged the public to come forward with any information that might assist in locating the woman seen in the CCTV footage.
