Former National Unity Platform Member of Parliament and senior opposition figure Hon. Abed Bwanika has dismissed claims that the newly formed Democratic Front (DF) party is a rival or threat to the NUP.

Speaking to the media, Bwanika clarified that DF remains open to collaboration with NUP since both parties share a common mission: to end President Yoweri Museveni’s long-standing rule.

“There is an opportunity for us to work with NUP if we find a platform that enables engagement,” Bwanika stated. “We all want to deliver to the people of Uganda the future they deserve.”

Bwanika, who was a prominent figure within NUP for five years, said he understands the party's internal workings well. He noted, however, that NUP had limited space for leaders like him to operate effectively.

“We were in NUP for the last five years, and there was no space for us. I urge the NUP leadership to focus on bigger issues that unite the opposition,” he added.

The former MP also issued a warning to NUP, cautioning that the political landscape could become more challenging ahead of the 2026 general elections. According to Bwanika, many individuals he helped bring into NUP are likely to shift allegiance to DF.

“NUP must be prepared. Many of the people we took to NUP will move to DF. It will be a massive exodus,” he warned.

As Uganda edges closer to the 2026 elections, political analysts and citizens alike are keenly watching how the relationship between DF and NUP will evolve and what impact it could have on the broader opposition movement.
