The Aponye Group, once one of Uganda’s most formidable agro-processing and manufacturing empires, has collapsed just two years after the death of its founder, Apollo Nyegamehe. The group’s properties are now being auctioned off to recover debts, signaling the end of an era.

In a notice published today by AF Mpanga Advocates, several flagship assets including estates in Makindye, the Nalukolongo Grain Factory, and factories in Masaka and Mubend have been listed for public sale. Cristal Advocates is also handling the disposal of Quality Polybags Factory, another core business under the group.

Nyegamehe, a revered self-made entrepreneur, died in a tragic car crash in July 2023. His passing left a leadership vacuum many believe catalyzed the group’s downfall.

Sources point to internal conflicts, heavy debts, and poor succession planning as causes behind the empire’s financial implosion. As creditors move in, employees and communities tied to Aponye’s operations face deep uncertainty.

The once-proud name of Aponye now stands as a sobering lesson in legacy, leadership, and business continuity
