Ministry of Water and Environment Donates Supplies to Sanyu Babies Home

KAMPALA – In a heartfelt gesture of public service and corporate social responsibility, the Ministry of Water and Environment has donated essential supplies to Sanyu Babies Home in Mengo, Kampala, in support of orphaned and abandoned children under the home’s care.
The visit, held in the run-up to Africa Public Service Day commemorations scheduled for July 1 at Kololo Independence Grounds, was part of a series of outreach activities by the Ministry to reaffirm its commitment to serving Uganda’s most vulnerable communities.
Leading the delegation was Mrs. Catherine Nassuna, Undersecretary for Finance and Administration, who represented the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Alfred Okot Okidi.
During the handover ceremony, Nassuna emphasized that public service is not only about infrastructure and policy, but also about compassion and dignity.
“We have come to make these children feel the environment, care, and compassion,” she said.
“These items will improve the children’s hygiene, sanitation, and general well-being. Public Service Day is a time to reflect on how we can better serve all Ugandans, especially the vulnerable.”
The Ministry’s donation included a variety of food items, sanitary products, and essential medical supplies. Nassuna noted that the gesture aligns with Uganda’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—particularly Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
She was accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry, including Mr. Godfrey Ezati, Assistant Commissioner for Human Resource; Ms Grace Atebat, assistant commissioner for accounts; and Ms. Jackie Sandrah Ongom, principal human resource officer.
Sanyu Babies Home Administrator Christine Nalwanga, expressed gratitude for the visit and the Ministry’s thoughtful contribution.
“Now that the Ministry of Water and Environment officials are here, our hope has been restored,” she said. “Their care and compassion mean a great deal to the children and the entire staff.”
The outreach is one of several activities the Ministry is undertaking in celebration of Africa Public Service Day.
Earlier in the week, the Ministry participated in a soccer gala where its team reached the quarter-finals.
Next on the calendar is a public exhibition scheduled for Monday, July 7, where the Ministry will showcase innovations, achievements, and ongoing efforts in water and environmental management in line with the National Resistance Movement’s Manifesto.
This year’s Public Service Day is themed around enhancing transparency, accessibility, and impact in government service delivery—values the Ministry says it is determined to uphold both in policy and practice.
