“I Had No Idea He Was Unwell†— Woman at Center of Dr. Kiggundu’s Mysterious Death Speaks Out
The woman identified as the last person to see renowned gynecologist Dr. John Spire Kiggundu alive has issued her first official statement since her arrest. Eva Mbabazi, believed to be in her early 20s, is currently in police custody as investigations into the doctor’s mysterious death continue.Dr. Kiggundu, founder of Henrob Hospital, was found dead on the evening of June 21, 2025, inside a room at Dream Guest House in Lubowa, shortly after checking in at 5:45 PM. CCTV footage obtained by authorities showed Mbabazi exiting the room later that evening, raising questions about her involvement.
Through her legal representative, Mbabazi explained that her visit to Dr. Kiggundu was brief and professional in nature. “I met him for a short consultation. There was no indication he was unwell when I left,†she said. She firmly denied any role in his death.
Her statement has since been officially recorded by Kampala Metropolitan Police and submitted to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review. Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango confirmed that Mbabazi has cooperated with investigators and remains calm under questioning.
Initial medical assessments point to a heart attack as the likely cause of death. However, further tests are ongoing to rule out any suspicious circumstances
