In Tororo District, the traditional people’s court, known for handling local matters through cultural justice, held another public session this week. The meeting was led by the respected clan head, Raymond Enaat, who presided over a highly sensitive case that shocked the community.

During the session, a man named Etiang was found guilty of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with Apaderet, who is the wife of his brother’s son and a mother of four children. The court viewed this act as deeply disrespectful and a serious violation of cultural norms.

According to clan traditions, this kind of relationship is strictly forbidden. It is considered an act of betrayal and dishonor to the family and community. As a result, the people’s court ruled that Etiang’s actions were unlawful and deserved public punishment.

To serve justice, the court sentenced Etiang to receive “kiboko”—a public caning meant to shame the offender and deter similar behavior in the future. Many community members attended the session, and the ruling was seen as a way of restoring moral order and protecting family values.

The clan leaders reminded everyone that traditional justice is still alive and respected in rural areas, especially when it comes to protecting the integrity of families and communities
