Tears and Turmoil: MP Balimwezo Crushed as NUP Backs Lukwago in Secret Deal
Nakawa West MP Ronald Balimwezo has reportedly been left emotionally shattered after learning that the National Unity Platform (NUP) will not support his long-anticipated bid for Kampala Lord Mayor.
Insiders say party leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, sealed a behind-the-scenes pact with incumbent Mayor Erias Lukwago.
The deal allegedly guarantees NUP's silent support for Lukwago’s 2026 re-election, in exchange for his political non-interference in Bobi Wine's presidential aspirations under the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) banner.
During a recent meeting, Balimwezo was informed that although he would receive the NUP flag as a gesture, the party would not fund or campaign for him. Witnesses say the news left him in tears, pleading for support—only to be rebuffed.
Adding to his woes, Balimwezo has reportedly been told to vacate his Nakawa West seat to pave the way for Waiswa Mufumbiro, Bobi Wine’s close ally.
The incident has sparked discontent within NUP ranks, with critics accusing the party of abandoning its own for strategic alliances
