We Have No Problem Dialoguing With Museveni – Betty Nambooze

Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze has once again voiced the opposition’s willingness to engage in talks with President Yoweri Museveni, but only if the process is grounded in transparency, fairness, and national interest.During an appearance on NBS TV, Nambooze emphasized that the opposition is not fundamentally opposed to dialogue but is cautious of “cosmetic” conversations that yield no real results. “We are not against dialogue,” she said. “But we reject any form of engagement that is not structured or aimed at genuine transformation.”
As a senior member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Nambooze underscored the party’s commitment to democratic values and constitutional governance. She insisted that any political talks must address key issues affecting Ugandans—including electoral reform, justice, and the protection of civil liberties.
“The opposition’s criticism of President Museveni is not personal. It is about how the country is being governed,” she clarified. “Real dialogue should confront those realities—not sweep them under the carpet.”
Her remarks come at a time when there is mounting pressure from civil society groups and religious institutions urging both the ruling government and opposition leaders to open inclusive and transparent lines of communication ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Nambooze also called on Ugandans to remain vigilant and politically conscious, adding that any political engagement must be rooted in truth and a shared desire to move the country forward—not backroom deals or token gestures.
“As NUP, we won’t sell out. We would rather walk a tough path upright than accept shortcuts that betray the people’s trust,” she affirmed.
With the 2026 election season approaching, Nambooze’s firm stand signals that dialogue may be on the table—but only on terms that honor the democratic aspirations of all Ugandans
