NUP Sec-General Rubongoya Reacts to Detention of Dr Kizza Besigye and Haji Obeid Lutale

National Unity Platform Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, has called for the release of Veteran Ugandan Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye and Haji Obeid Lutale who are currently being held at Luzira Maximum Prison.

The two suspects were charged with Treason for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, charges that caught the attention of members of the opposition who claimed that the government has been targeting government critics.

According to the reports given by the Prosecution, Dr Kizza Besigye traveled to several countries where he met with several individuals who were plotting to overthrow the government of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The prosecution also claimed that Dr Kizza Besigye received over 5000 US dollars to Facilitate their alleged mission.

Winnie Byanyima, the wife to Dr Kizza Besigye dismissed these reports, she went on to say that the government of President Museveni has been targeting her husband.

In a post on X formerly Twitter, National Unity Platform, President Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, claimed that the government is trying to weaken the opposition.

National Unity Platform Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya urged the court to free Dr Kizza Besigye and Haji Obeid on bail.
