SAD: One Individual Dead, Local Leader Critically Injured in Mukono Night Attack

A deadly ambush in Mukono District has left one person dead and two others, including a local leader, critically injured. The attack occurred on the night of Sunday, July 13, in Banda village, Nakisunga Sub-county, causing fear and outrage among residents.
The deceased, 20-year-old Brian Kasimagwa, was a choir member and an aspiring university student.
According to family sources, he was returning home from Kisoga Market when he was attacked.
His mother shared that Brian had called her during the night, saying he was in danger.
Sadly, the call ended abruptly. His phone was later picked up by strangers before it went off completely. His lifeless body was found dumped near his home.
Alongside Brian were two other victims: Yafeesi Kiyaga, the Vice Chairperson of Nakisunga Sub-county and a known opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, and Emmanuel Bosa.
Both were seriously injured and are currently receiving treatment.
Bosa said they were attacked by four men who were armed with iron bars.
“They beat us and demanded our belongings,” he recounted.
The incident has sparked strong reactions from locals.
Many blame the increase in such crimes on idle youth, drug abuse, and the unchecked spread of gambling and alcohol outlets.
David Kalinda, a community elder, said, “Our youth are jobless and are turning to crime.”
Rehema Namuyanja, another resident, pointed to rapid population growth and poor planning.
Some political leaders now suspect the attack might have had a political motive.
Yafeesi Kiyaga, who is active in local politics and expected to contest again, may have been a target.
“This is more than just robbery. There’s a pattern of targeting opposition leaders,” said Moses Tamale, an area councillor.
Police have confirmed the incident and say investigations are ongoing.
Kampala Metropolitan Police reported that a manhunt has been launched for the attackers and a post-mortem examination on Brian’s body is underway.
Community members are now calling for immediate government intervention to restore safety.
Many want more patrols, better street lighting, and urgent programs to engage unemployed youth in productive activities
