Earlier today, Maj Martha Asiimwe, the head of the RDC Secretariat and the Anti-Corruption Unit, alongside State Minister for Energy Hon. The event, held in the heart of West Nile, was marked by excitement, music, speeches, and a sense of celebration as the new members pledged their loyalty to the NRM. Supporters wore yellow attire and waved party flags, symbolizing their shift in allegiance.
Maj Asiimwe praised the move, calling it a sign that more Ugandans are beginning to recognize the NRM’s role in delivering peace, stability, and development. “This is not just a political switch — it’s a commitment to work together for the betterment of our communities,” she said.
Minister Phiona Nyamutoro, who hails from the region, encouraged the new members to actively participate in party activities and help strengthen NRM structures at the grassroots. She said the party is open to everyone and committed to inclusive leadership. “As we prepare for 2026, our message is clear — unity, service, and transformation,” she noted.
Many of those who crossed over included youth leaders, women’s group representatives, and former opposition mobilizers. Some said they were impressed by government development programs, while others expressed frustration with disunity and unmet promises in their former parties.
The event also featured cultural performances and testimonies from the new members, who were officially handed NRM membership cards.
This latest wave of defections is seen as part of the NRM’s strategy to consolidate support in key districts ahead of the 2026 General Election
