Former Kampala Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Hussein Hudu, has been defeated in the race for Member of Parliament for Mbale Northern City Division. The highly contested NRM primaries concluded late Wednesday evening. The Electoral Commission officially declared Mr. Umar Nangoli the winner at around 11:00 p.m. According to preliminary tallies, Nangoli secured a commanding lead over his closest rival, Hudu.

Hudu, who previously served as RCC in several districts including Kampala and Yumbe, had hoped to transition from civil service into elective politics. His campaign emphasized improving service delivery, youth empowerment, and urban transformation in Mbale.

Despite his administrative experience and national profile, Hudu failed to garner enough support on the ground. Local voters appeared to favor Nangoli, who has deep grassroots connections in the region.

Nangoli’s campaign strategy focused on community engagement and building trust with local leaders. Many voters praised him for maintaining close contact with residents even before the campaign season.

After the results were announced, NRM officials in Mbale urged both camps to embrace unity. They emphasized that intra-party competition should not weaken the broader goal of maintaining party strength in the general election.

Hudu accepted the outcome but did not immediately comment on his next political move. Supporters say he remains committed to public service, even if not in an elective capacity.

Political analysts note that Hudu’s loss highlights the challenge technocrats face when entering grassroots politics. The defeat marks a significant moment in Mbale's political dynamics
