Six Incumbent MPs Lose NRM Parliamentary Flagbearer Race in Lango Sub-region

Six incumbent Members of Parliament from the Lango Sub-region lost their bids to retain the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The results, released by the NRM electoral commission at various district tally centres, mark a major political shake-up in the region, with voters opting for new leadership within the ruling party.
The MPs who were defeated in the party primaries include James Olobo Dubai (Kioga North), Tony Ayo (Kwania County), Moses Ogwal Goli (Dokolo North), Dorcus Acen (Alebtong Woman MP), Judith Alyek (Kole Woman MP), and Christine Akello alias Gwok Adako (Erute North).
These high-profile losses reflect growing dissatisfaction among constituents and a shift in grassroots support toward new faces. Analysts say the defeats point to increasing pressure on incumbents to deliver tangible results and stay connected with the electorate.
In several constituencies, youth-driven campaigns and promises of fresh development ideas played a major role in unseating the sitting legislators. Local observers reported peaceful voting across most areas, with minor logistical delays in isolated polling stations.
Supporters of the winning candidates celebrated throughout the night, while some of the outgoing MPs acknowledged defeat and thanked their constituents for the opportunity to serve.
In Kole District, Judith Alyek, who also served as chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group, conceded defeat and urged unity within the NRM. “Leadership is a calling, and I respect the voice of the people,” she said.
The defeat of these MPs sets the stage for a new political landscape in Lango as the NRM prepares for the national elections. It also raises questions about party loyalty, voter expectations, and the future of veteran politicians in Uganda's changing democracy
