The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has launched a nationwide campaign under the theme “I Am NIN-ED, I Am Ugandan,” aimed at strengthening national identity and promoting pride in citizenship.

The campaign was unveiled at the Uganda Police Headquarters in Naguru, where NIRA registrar Claire Ollama emphasized its broader purpose: to ensure that every Ugandan has a recognized identity and to inspire national pride rooted in cultural diversity.

“This campaign is about more than just acquiring a National Identification Number (NIN); it’s about giving every citizen a sense of belonging and making Ugandans feel proud of their nationality,” Ollama said.

“The beauty of Ugandans has to be exposed and shared with the country at large.”

Ollama encouraged citizens from all tribes to unite in support of the initiative. “I am proud to be an Alulu. Are you proud of your tribe?” she asked, urging Ugandans to celebrate their unique identities while embracing their shared national bond.

The “I Am NIN-ED, I Am Ugandan” campaign calls on communities to mobilize and register for their NINs—a critical step in accessing public services, participating in national planning exercises, and securing legal recognition as citizens.

Through this initiative, NIRA aims to promote unity in diversity by showcasing the cultural richness of Uganda’s communities while reinforcing the value of inclusive national identity.

As the campaign rolls out across the country, Ugandans are being encouraged to take pride in their heritage and actively participate in the identity registration process.
