The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has raised concerns about the growing involvement of security forces in Uganda’s electoral processes, warning that recent incidents during the NRM primaries could foreshadow more serious challenges in the 2026 general elections.

Speaking at a party briefing, PFF Electoral Commission Chairperson Michael Kabaziguruka urged the ruling NRM to refrain from using security agencies in political activities and criticized the Electoral Commission for its silence on the matter.

“If this is happening within NRM itself, what should other political parties expect in 2026?” Kabaziguruka asked.

He warned that the military’s continued presence in electoral processes undermines the credibility and fairness of Uganda’s democratic institutions.

Despite the concerns, PFF has proceeded with its internal preparations for the upcoming elections. The party confirmed that it is receiving expression of interest forms from aspiring candidates until July 31, 2025.

Party primaries will be held between August 4 and 15, 2025. The leadership called on interested Ugandans to take part in shaping both the future of the party and the country’s political direction.

PFF also reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful democratic transition and called on both the Electoral Commission and the government to guarantee a level playing field for all political actors.
