"When Will Muhoozi Face Court?" — Ssenyonyi Slams Selective Justice

Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi has questioned why CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has never been summoned to court over alleged online misconduct. He pointed to what he sees as a selective justice system in Uganda.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Ssenyonyi asked, “When is Muhoozi going to be brought to court to answer for a similar offence?” His comments came shortly after NUP MP Noah Mutwe was granted bail.
Mutwe had been arrested and charged over comments deemed offensive by authorities. Ssenyonyi cited this as part of a growing pattern where opposition voices face legal consequences while regime-aligned figures remain untouched.
Ssenyonyi referenced numerous online statements made by Gen. Muhoozi, many of which have drawn criticism for being inflammatory or partisan. “Why is he never called to account?” Ssenyonyi pressed.
He argued that Uganda’s legal system is increasingly perceived as a tool for political suppression rather than impartial justice. “The law must apply equally to all Ugandans, regardless of rank or background,” he said.
The NUP leader also expressed concerns over the continued targeting of opposition politicians. “This is not just about Mutwe. It’s about the shrinking space for dissent in Uganda,” he noted.
While addressing the media, Ssenyonyi emphasized that holding double standards undermines public trust in the judiciary. “People see these contradictions and lose confidence in the rule of law,” he warned.
In the past, Gen. Muhoozi has posted controversial tweets, some of which appeared to carry diplomatic implications. Despite public backlash, no formal legal action has ever been taken against him
