In a powerful gesture that blends artistic legacy with continental pride, American Grammy Award-winning singer Matt B has donated his prized Grammy trophy to the Uganda Tourism Board for public exhibition at the Uganda Museum.

The symbolic handover took place shortly after his arrival in Uganda on Wednesday, accompanied by his wife.

Matt B’s act is intended not just as a tribute to Uganda’s contribution to his musical journey but also as an inspiration for the rising generation of African creatives.

"This is more than just a personal win," the singer said during the ceremony. "It’s a victory for Uganda, for East Africa, and for Africa as a whole. It shows the world just how powerful African music and creativity can be."

Though Matt B didn’t take home the Grammy for Best Global Music Performance—a category where his collaboration with Ugandan superstar Eddy Kenzo, Gimme Love, was nominated—he scored big at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards in 2025 by winning Best Global Music Album for Alkebulan II. The album is a vibrant celebration of African heritage, rhythms, and narratives.

During his remarks, Matt B gave special recognition to the Ugandan artists, producers, and songwriters who helped bring Alkebulan II to life.

He praised producers Bashkilla and BiT HD for crafting the album's rich sonic texture and credited songwriters Ghost Elnino, Rulz, Ziginana, and Tarley for their lyrical ingenuity.

Matt B emphasized that the trophy would be more than a display item—it would serve as a source of motivation. "By placing this Grammy in the Uganda Museum, I hope young Ugandan artists will look at it and see what’s possible when talent meets opportunity and collaboration," he said.

His visit also reaffirmed Uganda’s growing presence in the global music space, a movement fronted by talents like Eddy Kenzo.

The Grammy donation adds cultural weight to Uganda's tourism and creative economy, showcasing the country not only as a scenic destination but also as a hub for world-class artistry.

As Matt B left the stage to applause, it was clear that the Grammy he brought wasn’t just hardware—it was hope
