Tributes Pour In for Justice Kanyehamba, a Beacon of Integrity and Wisdom

A somber mood blankets the legal fraternity and nation as hundreds gather to honor the life and legacy of the late Prof. George Kanyeihamba, a revered Supreme Court judge, author, and constitutional scholar.
Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo hails Kanyeihamba’s legacy as “an exemplary service to humanity,” praising his “deep intelligence and fearless independence” that shaped the judiciary and inspired generations of legal minds.
“He was more than a judge,” Owiny-Dollo says. “He was a thinker, a fearless voice, and a patriot.”
Deputy Chief Justice Flavian Zeija echoes that sentiment, describing Kanyeihamba as a “dedicated judge of the Supreme Court whose judicial contributions have left a lasting imprint.”
Acting Principal Judge Jane Okuo Kajuga adds that Kanyeihamba’s career serves as a reminder that justice is not about popular opinion but about “upholding the law with integrity and courage.”
Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka describes him as “a beacon of wisdom, integrity, and compassion,” commending his deep understanding of the law and his commitment to justice.
Kanyeihamba, who authored several legal texts and participated in drafting Uganda’s 1995 Constitution, is remembered not only for his jurisprudence but also for his bold independence, often standing firm even when unpopular. His passing leaves a void in Uganda’s intellectual and judicial landscape — one that many say will not easily be filled.
