The National Resistance Movement (NRM) elections tribunal has adjourned the hearing of a petition challenging the party's primary victory of Diana Mutasingwa in the Buikwe District Woman MP race to 4pm, after the petitioner failed to appear.

Mutasingwa, who also serves as the Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President, won the party primaries with 93% of the vote.

Her sole challenger, Harriet Nankabirwa, petitioned the tribunal but did not show up to present her case.

Describing the petition as a waste of time, Mutasingwa urged the tribunal to dismiss it outright due to the petitioner’s absence.

The tribunal, chaired by John Musiime, is handling more than 380 petitions arising from the recently concluded NRM primaries.

Eight panels, each comprising three senior lawyers, are hearing the disputes. At least 56 petitions were scheduled for the opening day.

Other high-profile cases before the tribunal include challenges to Napak Woman MP Faith Nakut’s nomination and the Nakawa West flag bearer win of former Deputy RCC Anderson Burora.
