Tears rolled at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe after news broke that one of President Museveni’s top guards had been killed in a road accident along Mukono–Jinja highway early Friday morning.

According to police, the deceased was Droma Vasco, a staff member at State House in Entebbe, who died on the spot. The fatal accident occurred at around 5:45 am near Victory Church in Seeta, Mukono District.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango confirmed that the accident involved three vehicles—a bus (registration number RAI 647B), two army trucks (H4DF 1156 and H4DF 2468), and a bulky cement tank carrier.

Onyango explained that the bus driver had overlapped a queue of army trucks, causing a collision with the oncoming cement carrier. In an attempt to avoid a head-on crash, the driver of the cement carrier lost control, ramming into the SFC trucks coming from the opposite direction. This resulted in the death of Droma Vasco.

Police officers rushed to the scene, arrested the bus driver before he could flee, and took the deceased’s body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem. The injured soldiers were admitted to Mukono Hospital for treatment.

The bus was towed and parked at Coca-Cola Police Station pending inspection. Onyango said police investigations have commenced to establish the full circumstances of the accident, adding that dangerous driving by the bus driver is the suspected cause according to preliminary findings
