President Museveni has this Tuesday held a meeting with the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) at State House, Entebbe.

Museveni, who is the party’s chairman, chaired meeting.

“During the meeting, the leadership discussed issues concerning the party,” said State House in a media statement without divulging details.

ChimpReports understands the meeting, which was attended by Speaker Anita Among, was called to agree on the selection of the chairpersons and deputy chairpersons of sectoral committees of Parliament.

Parliament today adjourned plans to designate the committee chairpersons.

The designation was meant to happen on Friday last week but the NRM Central Executive Committee decided to first subject the names of MPs who have applied to head the committees to security for vetting.

The House had called a sitting on Friday but later postponed it to Tuesday this week.

NRM CEC last week sat for a second meeting to approve the names but there was no consensus prompting another meeting to be scheduled this Tuesday.

It remains to be seen if the new names have been agreed to by CEC.

50 legislators have applied to lead the committees.

CEC had always left the responsibility of deciding on the committee leaders to the party leadership in Parliament but the recent arrests of lawmakers over corruption indicate that the top ruling party’s organ has embarked on keeping a keen eye on the affairs in Parliament.

The committees include Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Defence and Internal Affairs, East African Community Affairs, Education and Sports, Environment and Natural Resources, Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Foreign Affairs and Gender, Labour and Social Development.

Others are the Committee on Health, Information, Communication Technology and National Guidance, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Presidential Affairs, Public Service and Local Government, Tourism, Trade and Industry and the Committee on Physical Infrastructure.

The Anti-Corruption court last week charged and remanded to Luzira the Legal Committee vice chairperson, Yusuf Mutembuli; Lwengo Woman MP, Cissy Namujju and Busiki County MP, Paul Akamba for soliciting a bribe from Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) boss Mariam Wangadya
