Uganda Prisons Service announces major transfers, appointments of senior officers

KAMPALA — The Uganda Prisons Service has announced a wide-ranging reshuffle of its senior officers, aimed at enhancing professionalism, optimizing performance, and improving service delivery across the country.

In a press release signed by Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine Mayanja, the changes include appointments, transfers, and officers returning from leave to assume new roles.

Among the notable changes, Ms. Aliyo Naatukunda has been appointed Acting Commissioner of Prisons in charge of Legal Advisory Services and Human Rights at Prisons Headquarters, while Ms. Brenda Sana, Commissioner of Prisons, has been transferred to Headquarters as Head of the Human Resource Planning & Development Department.

Other key movements include Mr. Robert Jolly Bamutura, who returns to the Department of Estates & Engineering as Staff Officer, and Mr. Ben Nyanzi Nicomedie Ahimbisibwe, who resumes duty as Officer in Charge of the Division of Pensions.

At the operational level, several officers have been redeployed to district commands. Mr. Ronald Mukwoli has been appointed District Prisons Commander, Kalungu; Mr. Michael Padde as Staff Officer, Bugiri; Mr. William Ochwo as Staff Officer, Tororo; Mr. Christopher Twebaze as Staff Officer, Kalungu; and Mr. Geoffrey Poro as Staff Officer, Kumi District, taking over from Mr. Patrick Emojong, who proceeds on leave pending retirement.

In the central region, Ms. Lillian Asello has been deployed as Staff Officer, while Ms. Zaia Munobwa moves to Busaana Prisons as Officer in Charge, replacing Ms. Juliet Alero, who proceeds on 90 days of normal leave.

The reshuffle also confirmed the appointments of Deputy Officers in Charge at various stations, including ASP Ronald Kyalisiima (Nyabuhikye), ASP Patience Nambuya (Kanoni), ASP Andrew Daniel Ayebare (Arua Main), ASP Gerald Okabo (Masaka Main), ASP Stephen Kigaye (Mubuku), ASP Deusdedit Mutabarukye (Aswa II), and ASP Amos Omoding (Ibuga).

According to the statement, all Regional and District Prisons Commanders have been directed to oversee immediate handovers and takeovers in line with the new assignments.
